Tour De France Computer Hardware Systems Considered | Best 99 ...
The 2009 Tour de France is now completed and Lance Armstrong came in third which is an incredible feat for a 37-year-old against all those young riders and the top cyclists in the world. One thing that was truly amazing is the computer hardware system that is used now in the Tour de France, as it is completely state-of-the-art and on the leading edge of sports racing technologies.
Each of the high-tech racing bikes competing in this year?s Tour had a small transponder box, about the size of a small package of cigarettes which was attached to the frame; as each rider came through the finish line of each stage, the system recorded their exact time. That way there could be no discrepancies and no need for photo finishes.
Best of all the tabulations for the results of each of the stages was nearly instantaneous, along with the point systems along the way. Everything was figured down into these seconds between the riders. For most of the 2009 Tour, the top 10 riders were within one minute of each other. For most of the race Lance Armstrong was within 2 seconds of the rider behind him, as he rode in the Tour de France in second place until the very final stages and ended up taking third place.
The information technology systems and computer hardware that are used in modern day bicycle races is something, which could only have been dreamed of during the first Tour de France races, which started over 96 years ago. They?ve come a long way and so too have the riders as they ride up and down the most notorious mountains of France. I hope you will please consider this and how technology has revolutionized the race.
